Learn to PHG

Wikipedia offers a good article describing what Powered Hang Gliding is all about. Another useful site is run by Wind-Difter.

The IHPA does not provide training directly. Before you can learn to fly a hang glider under power you must first learn to fly without power (free-flying) and gain a minimum Pilot Rating of Safe Pro 3. You are strongly advised to wait until you have logged many hours flying hang gliders without power before you consider powered hang gliding. Flying with a motor adds a new level of complexity and a fresh set of dangers to an already dangerous sport.

If you want to learn to fly powered hang gliders you will need to go to a training school licenced to teach this discipline. The IHPA recommends that you look for schools using the BMAA syllabus as this has been accepted in Ireland by the Irish Aviation Authority licencing division. Contact the IHPA Training & Flight Safety Officer or the BHPA for information on schools in the UK.

Please read the Powered Flying (FLPA) pages on this website describing the regulation and licensing of all Foot Launched Powered Aviation in Ireland.
